Below are examples of some of the projects that I have been involved with during my career to date.
Spittal CP School.
Structural design of the school building including bespoke precast concrete arch lintels and a number of feature gable trusses. Particular attention was given to the design and detailing of the steelwork connections in the trusses to ensure that the architects vision was realised.
Ysgol Glannau Gwaun, Fishguard.
Structural design of the new primary school in Fishguard. The building is located on a sloping site and is split over two levels to make the most of the terrain. The design included a significant retaining structure to the lower level. The building superstructure comprises a steel frame using ‘Metsec’ lattice trusses. Of particular note was the need to create a ‘bat cave’ within the roof of the main hall which necessitated the design of several large steel trusses to span this space.
Artificial turf sports pitches.
I have extensive experience in the design and procurement of a range of artificial sports pitches including sand dressed hockey pitches and 3G pitches. Examples below include Ysgol Bro Gwaun in Fishguard and the Portfield School site in Haverfordwest.
In addition to artificial grass pitches I have also designed and procured a variety of MUGAs (Multi Use Games Areas) around Pembrokeshire.
Fishguard Town Hall.
I undertook the structural design for the refurbishment of the town hall and market buildings in Fishguard. The project included the assessment of existing parts of the building; strengthening works to allow use of parts of the existing building as a library; and the design of structural steelwork and glue laminated beams for the refurbishment of the market hall.
Commerce House, Haverfordwest.
This listed building was assessed to be at risk of collapse, presenting a significant danger to members of the public. I undertook the procurement of a specialist shoring scaffold to support the building and ensure public safety. Following the erection of the shoring scaffold I designed, procured and managed the demolition of the front section of the building. This included the careful removal and salvage of the statue from the roof of the building.
Royal Gatehouse Hotel, Tenby.
Provision of specialist structural engineering advice to the emergency services during a major fire at these listed buildings.
